The Day 3 morning shift of Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) 2026 was held on April 5, and students found the paper overall easy to moderate. According to most candidates and experts, the Physics and Chemistry sections were easy, while Mathematics was slightly more difficult.
The exam is one of the most important entrance tests for engineering students in India. Every year, lakhs of students appear for JEE Main to get admission into top engineering colleges.
This year’s April session is being closely watched, and the Day 3 Shift One paper has received positive feedback from students.
Section-wise difficulty and topics
Experts said that the overall difficulty level of the paper was easy. Ajay Sharma, an academic expert from Aakash Educational Services Limited, stated that both Physics and Chemistry were easy, while Mathematics ranged from easy to moderate.
In the Physics section, most questions were considered straightforward. The questions were asked from different chapters, showing a balanced coverage of the syllabus. Mechanics had higher weightage, but some important topics like Rotational Motion and Fluid Mechanics were not included.
Questions from Electromagnetism were present, including topics like electric charges and capacitors. There were fewer questions from Magnetism, while Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) had some representation. Alternating Current (AC) had very few questions.
Other topics like Ray Optics, Wave Optics, Thermodynamics, and the Photoelectric Effect were also included. However, Waves had limited questions. Some students mentioned that a few questions were statement-based and slightly confusing.
The Chemistry section was also rated easy by most students. Questions were evenly divided among Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. However, Physical Chemistry had slightly fewer questions compared to the other two.
Inorganic Chemistry had good weightage and included many direct questions. Some questions were based on laboratory experiments and practical knowledge. A large number of questions were directly taken from NCERT textbooks, which made it easier for students who had prepared well.
Most questions in Chemistry were simple and direct, though a few required calculations. Some questions were also slightly unclear, which made them a bit tricky.

Mathematics slightly challenging
Compared to Physics and Chemistry, the Mathematics section was considered more difficult. Students said that it ranged from easy to moderate but required more time and effort.
The questions were spread across different chapters, with more focus on Vectors, 3D Geometry, and Permutations and Combinations. These topics had higher weightage in the paper.
Other chapters were also included but with average weightage. Calculus had a moderate number of questions, which is common in JEE Main papers.
Most questions in Mathematics were not very lengthy, but some required detailed calculations. This made the section time-consuming for many students.
Another observation was that there were more questions from Class 12 topics compared to Class 11. Students who were strong in Class 12 syllabus found the section easier.
Overall, Mathematics was the deciding factor for many candidates, as it required more focus and accuracy compared to the other sections.
Despite this, the paper was balanced and fair. Students who had prepared well from NCERT books and practiced regularly found the paper manageable.
The exam pattern also helped students attempt questions easily, as it followed a familiar structure. The mix of easy and moderate questions allowed students to score well if they managed their time properly.
In conclusion, the Day 3 Shift One paper of JEE Main 2026 was student-friendly. Physics and Chemistry helped students gain confidence with easy questions, while Mathematics tested their problem-solving skills.
As the exam continues, students appearing in upcoming shifts can expect a similar pattern. Proper revision of NCERT books and practice of important topics will remain key to scoring well in JEE Main.
The overall response suggests that this session of JEE Main may see good scores, especially for students who focused on basics and clear concepts.
